Ollie Mae Johnson Vance was born on March 2, 1933 at Swords Creek, Virginia, being blessed with 83 years, 8 months, and 17 days. On November 19, 2016, while at Kissitto Rehabilitation and Health Care, in Lebanon, VA., Mae went to Heaven to join her loving husband Rev. Trevert Roscoe Vance, who preceded her in death on October 2, 2015. She is also preceded in death by her parents, William Howard Johnson and Margie Richardson Johnson Mullins, and two brothers, Howard Elster Johnson and Buford Hassell Johnson.
Mae was a lifelong resident of the Pine Creek Section of Swords Creek. She was a loving wife and devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother to her family, having 6 children, 10 grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren, 4 step-grandchildren, and 3 step-great grandchildren. She was actively involved in Maple Gap Church for 47 years alongside her husband as he pastored Maple Gap Church dedicating their lives to be lighthouses and stepping stones for many folks throughout their pastoral years. Mae was a highly respected member of the Pine Creek community of Swords Creek, being one of the pillars of the community that cared for and prayed for whomever needed prayer or hear a kind word. Mae enjoyed gardening, sewing, and spending time with her family. She was employed for a number of years at Honaker Mills in Honaker, VA. Then for several years, Mae and a colleague operated Drapery Dream House specializing in custom drapery and bed coverings.
Ollie Mae Johnson Vance is survived by 4 daughters: Linda Mae Vance Wilson, M.ED and husband Norman of Lebanon, VA; Brenda Fay Vance Hess, Ed.D and husband Gary of Cedar Bluff, VA; Ellen Kay Vance BSBM of Jonesborough, TN; and Barbara Ann Vance Lester BS.Ed and husband Frank of Swords Creek, VA. Two sons: Carl Howard Vance and wife Edna of Doran, VA; Roscoe Wayne Vance and wife Cindy of Reston, VA.
Mae is survived by one loving sister, Gladys Ivory Johnson of Richlands, VA. She is survived by 2 brothers, Hubert Daniel Johnson and wife Robbie of Kingsport, TN, and Darrell Edward Johnson and wife Kay of Johnson City, TN. Mae has 10 Grandchildren: Keith Norman Wilson and wife Brandy of Rosedale, VA; Gary Michael Hess and wife Monna of Springfield, OH; Sheryl Linda Wilson Davis and husband Curtis of Johnson City, TN, Anthony Wayne Hess and wife Barbara of Lexington, VA; Angela Gail Burton of Jewell Ridge, VA; Laken Rashel Lester and Lakeesha Leshae Lester of Swords Creek, VA, Victoria Larrell Lester Johns and husband Ronald of Winchester, KY, Andrea Faith Vance and John Lee Vance of Doran, VA.
Mae has 10 Great-Grandchildren: Sarah Ann Davis, Kaitlyn Brooke Wilson, Peyton Chance Wilson, Ava Elizabeth Hess, Kyle Logan Hess, Liam Patrick Hess, Elise Claire Hess, Alyssa Grace Wilson, Landon Jedediah Johns, and Dalton Elisha Lester. 4 Step-grandchildren: Rani Rae Price, Jerika Lee Price Hobza and husband David, Benjamin Michael Price, and Callie Elizabeth Price. 3 Step-great grandchildren: Tripp Mikel Briggs, Tayton Ray Hazelwood, and Pipper Hagen Price. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Life Celebration Service for Ollie Mae Johnson Vance will be conducted at the Singleton Funeral Service Chapel in Cedar Bluff, Virginia on Wednesday, November 23, 2016 at 11:00 A.M. Viewing services will be Monday evening, November 21, 2016 and Tuesday evening, November 22, 2016 from 6 P.M. to 9 P.M. both nights. Participants in this celebration service are Mae’s children and grandchildren, son-in-laws, and special singers. Ministers participating in this special service for Mae are: Rev. Gary Hess, Rev. Frank Lester, Rev. Dennis White, and Rev. Brian Nulf. Other special singers will be Judy Short and Daughters accompanied by Rev. Dennis White. Granddaughters will sing selected songs that Momaw loved, while daughter Barbara plays the piano.
Pallbearers will be: Keith Norman Wilson, Gary Michael Hess, Anthony Wayne Hess, Anthony Curtis Davis, John Lee Vance, Ronald Johns, Rev. Gary Lyons, and Rev. Lawrence Cantrell. Interment will follow at the Greenhills Memory Gardens Cemetery at Claypool Hill, VA.
Special great-grandsons who spent a lot of quality time with Momall Vance are Landon Johns and Dalton Lester. Mae is now enjoying peaceful Paradise with the love of her life, Trevert.
