Joan passed away Thursday, November 17, 2016. She was born in Colorado City, Texas, November 21, 1935, to Horace Willard DeLong and Bessie Mae Payne DeLong. Joan lived throughout Texas and in eight countries before moving to Fairmount, Texas, in 1986. Throughout her travels, she acquired a beloved, eclectic collection of furniture and knick-knacks that illuminated her personality, adventures and distinct phases of her life. Joan was a stay-at-home mother, raising five children and two grand-children. She is best remembered for her holiday meals that fed her extended family, neighbors and friends who passed through her home every Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter. Besides cooking, she also enjoyed the fruits of her husband's garden and game, and dabbled in golf in her younger years. She also was a member of the Singapore Wives Bridge Club during her years living in Singapore. She earned her cosmetology license to be an aesthetician in the 1980s and was an unofficial cosmetologist for family and friends.

Joan is survived by her daughters Debra Pulver of Lake Charles, La.; Donna Kjerulff of Burkeville, Tx.; and Sherri Gresham and her husband Terry of Cove, Texas; her sisters Sandy Wall and Suzy McDowell; and brothers James DeLong and John DeLong. She is also survived by five grandchildren: Diane Guillory and husband Joey, Debby Lemoine and husband Jim, Chenoa Stark and husband Coy, Charles Smith and wife Kate, and Travis Gresham. Her great grandchildren are Madison, Sadie, and Jacksen Guillory; Brooke and Kendall Stark; Benjamin and Kristopher Lemoine; and Eli Smith.

She was proceeded in death by her husband Robert C. Parks and sons Charles Smith, Jr., and Robert C. Parks, Jr.

A viewing will be held 9-11 a.m. Monday, November 21, followed by an 11 a.m. funeral service at Starr Funeral Home, 510 Starr St., Hemphill, Texas. Graveside services will follow at Mount Sinai Cemetery.
