Richard N. "Dick" George

Services for Richard N. "Dick" George, 62, will be held Wednesday, Aug. 14 at 10:00 a.m. at the Converse Funeral Chapel in Douglas with Pastor Dan Hickman of the Douglas Assembly of God Church officiating.

Mr. George died Tuesday, Aug. 6, 1991 at his home in Douglas from an apparent heart attack.

He was born June 24, 1929 in Douglas, the son of Harry and Mable (Ruhl) George. He was reared and educated in Douglas, graduating from the Douglas High School.

He entered the United States Navy in 1946 and received a medical discharge in 1969. He served in the Korean Conflict and Vietnam Era.

He moved to Lander from California following his discharge, and worked for the Wyoming State Journal Newspaper for a couple years. He then came to Douglas where he worked for the Douglas Budget, owned and operated a photography shop, and then worked for the National High School Rodeo Association as the newspaper editor. He served as mayor of Douglas from 1982 to 1989.

He was a member of the Samuel Mares American Legion Post #8.

He is survived by two sons, Richard George of Rock Springs, and Sven George of Douglas; one brother, Lewis R. George of Lander; two grandchildren; and two aunts, Rose George and Elsie George both of Douglas, and numerous cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Harriet Ellen George; and one brother, James Atwood George.

A memorial to the choice of the donor would be appreciated by the family.
