Burritt Anderson was born in Monmouth County, New Jersey. He grew up in the area learning how to farm. In 1828-1829, he met and later married Mary Amanda Walling a local girl from the Middleton area of Monmouth County.

Together they raised 11 children, 9 of which lived to adulthood. They had Louisa (Anderson) Oterson, Delilah (Anderson) Judd, Thomas T. Anderson, Warren H. Anderson, Garrett W. Anderson, Hamilton A. Anderson, Caroline (Anderson) Bates, Richard B. Anderson, Julia Ann Anderson, Joseph Anderson and Adelia Anderson.

From what early records can be found Burritt and Mary Amanda lived in Monmouth County, New Jersey from 1830 through the 1850's traveling around from Middleton, Raritan Township (then the Western side of Middleton), Keyport and Keansburg. By March 9, 1855, Burritt had moved his family to North Franklin, New York with 8 of their 11 children. Louisa their oldest had previous married and was living in Manhattan with her husband and children. Sadly, their two youngest, Joseph and Adelia had died young and were buried in Monmouth County, New Jersey.

1n 1855, Burritt and his family were enumerated on the 1855 NYS Census living on a farm in North Franklin. Their son Warren had already married and his wife Sarah was enumerated with the family. Burrit lived long enough to see several of his children and have children grandchildren; but, sadly, he didn't live long enough to enjoy their lives with them.

Sadly, Burritt's life was cut short at the age of 58 years. He was predeceased by his daughter Louisa who had died in 1864 and by his daughter-in-law, Sarah who had died in 1864 as well.
