On 24 December 1872 16-year-old Dotia Jane married 23-year-old John R. Montgomery in Carroll County, in the home of her mother Elizabeth. He was the son of John and Susan (Easterday) Montgomery. Dotia and John were 3rd cousins, once removed. Benjamin and Nancy (Stuman) Craig Sr. were her great-grandparents and John's great-great-grandparents.
John and Dotia had 2 children:
- Maggie Montgomery - (1874-1874) aged 1 day
- Curtis Montgomery - (1875-1969) aged 94
Dotia died 29 October 1875 at the age of 19 years, 2 months, 26 days. Her son was only 8 months old. She is buried in the east side of the Easterday cemetery, about a half mile from the town of Easterday, Carroll County.
