Sherman was born to the late Wardell Jonas Wilfong and Ruth Byrant Arbogast Wilfong.Sherman Fay Wilfong and Clara Margaret Lyke was marrried in Webster Springs,WV.on September 24, 1949 by N. T. Lewis. Clara and Sherman made their home in Staunton, Virginia.Sherman was a U.S. Navy Veteran. He was employed by Moore Brothers Construction, Marston & Micheal Roofing Contractors, and Smith Transfer prior to retirement. Sherman" life was shaped by his love and devotion for family.
He was preceded in death by his father Wardell Jonas Wilfong and Mother Ruth Bryant (Arbogast) Wilfong: his wife Clara Margaret (Lyke) Wilfong: six sisters, Ruth Elaine Wilfong, Ruth Dawn Wilfong,Sharlene Ellen Marston,Geraldine Helen Crigler, Mary Maxine Roberts, and Virginia Wilfong: and four brothers, Roscoe Thomas Wilfong, Dale Wilfong, Curtis Wardell Wilfong, and Robert Junior Wilfong. Surviving are a daughter, Margeret Ann Wilfong of Lexington: two sisters Dollie Payne (Wilfong) Tacy Rowlesburg, WV. Yvonne Wilfong of Ypsilanti, Mich: two grandsons, Richard Kevin Wood and wife Missy Wood of Christiansburg and Micheal Kyle Wood Lexington; two step grandchildren, Megan Renee Wood and Sean Atkins: and numerous nieces, nephews, great nephews and nieces including great nephew Richard Lee Tacy and numerous cousins.
His death was from Parkison's Disease where he was a resident of Heritage Hall in Lexington Virginia for five years.
