The following memorial editorial was written by his wonderful friend and neighbor, Rip (R.W.) Boteler in the Jasper Mountain Eagle:
OUR OPINION - Ed Hamilton Lives On In Things He Left Us
All of Jasper was saddened over the week-end by the loss of one of our best-known and best-loved citizens. The
passing of Edward Hamilton has been mourned by many, but his name is alive with us today as it will be for years to come.
Ed Hamilton was that kind of man. He lived his life by the simple creed of being a friend to man, and the number who knew him and liked him can testify to the effectiveness of his philosophy.
He did more than live a good life of his own. His dedication to his church, where he had served as a steward and treasurer, and his life-long interest in the youth of our county and our community was proof that he wanted a good life for others, too. The hundreds of Boy Scouts who benefited from his influence and the development of Camp O'Rear are perpetual monuments to his accomplishments among us.
Ed Hamilton met mankind's greatest challenge and passed it with gracious ease. Our world is a better place because he lived in it, and that's the ultimate ambition of us all.
