Nita was the daughter of Sylvanus Hamilton and Louvinia Caroline Argo Hamilton. On October 15, 1919, she married Ira Lewis Odom, the son of Dr. Jeremiah Newton Odom and Martelia Augustine Leonard Odom. Nita and her husband had one daughter, Dorris Juanita. Even though she was born in 1899, Nita's marker says 1900. She always gave her birth year as 1900 because she didn't want to be remembered as having been born in the 1800's.
