Bertha May Dobbs, daughter of William Thomas and Elizabeth Ritter Dobbs, was born Nov. 12, 1900, in Deepwater, Mo. and on May 7, 1919, married Earnest William Bailey. Six children blessed their union, all of whom survive. Her husband preceded her in death in 1958. Early in life she accepted Christ as her Savior, and sought to rear her children in a Godly manner. She was a devoted mother and a dutiful daughter, sacrificing her own health, happiness and welfare to minister to those whom she loved. She faithfully cared for her parents in their declining years while at the same time she was rearing her own children unassisted. The major part of her life was spent in Deepwater. Mrs. Bailey had entered Clinton General Hospital on Tuesday, Oct. 22, to undergo surgery and there succumbed unexpectedly at 8:44 a.m. Thursday. Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Matthew (Elizabeth Jean) Snedeker, Mrs. Vincent (Bertha June) Anzalone and four sons, Bobbie and Bennie Bailey, Kansas City, William Bailey, Groom, Texas, Thomas Bailey, Yreka, California; a sister, Mrs. Robert Webb, Manito, Illinois; four brothers, Leslie Dobbs, Deepwater, Ernest Dobbs, Benicia, California, George Dobbs, Macomb, Illinois, Charles Dobbs, Milan, Illinois; 23 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. Preceding her in death besides her husband was her father in 1954, her mother in 1958, a sister, Ann, at the age of four, two brothers, Cecil, in childbirth, and James at the age of 38.
