Mrs. Flora Patten passed away at the home of her son, Chester Pearson, in this village on Saturday morning, March 18.
Funeral services were conducted by Rev. S. A. Lumb in the Methodist church on Monday afternoon and the interment was at Oak Knoll.
Mrs. Patten was born at Augusta, Maine, on March 13, 1839, and therefore had reached the advanced age of 83 years. She moved from Maine to Iowa in 1857, was married in that state to Geo. F. Pearson, and came to Minnesota in 1858, settling in Baldwin township. Her husband was killed in a mill accident a year after being discharged from the army. Four children were born to this marriage, all of whom survive. They are Chester Pearson, Princeton; Lizzie Marshall, Alton, Kansas; Carrie Stauty, Duluth; Mrs. S. L. Marshall, King City, Mo. In 1868 deceased married Sumner Patten, and three children survive from this union, namely, Mrs. Aurilla O'Connor and Mrs. Geo. S. McArdle, Anoka; and Frank Patten, Spencer Brook. She is also survived by three brothers, two sisters, 42 grandchildren and 40 great grandchildren.
Of Mrs. Patten it could be truly said none knew her but to love her. She was at all times helpful and considerate toward others. Early in her married life she joined the Methodist church and, with Christian grace and fortitude, faced the difficulties and trials of pioneer life and Civil War hardships.
