The service will be 10 a.m. Friday at Etzweiler Funeral Home, 1111 E. Market St., York. Burial will be in Mount Rose Cemetery, with military rites by the I and I staff of the U.S. Marine Corps of Harrisburg. Viewing will be 9 to 10 a.m. Friday at the funeral home. The Rev. Dale M. Buettner will officiate.
Mr. Deems was born Jan. 19, 1926, in Adah. He was the son of the late Francis M. and Edith Irene (Everhart) Deems.
He was the central office supervisor for GTE, retiring after 40 years of service; after retirement, he was a school bus driver and charter bus driver for the Red Lion Bus Co. He was a member of Chi Chi Jima Marines; charter president of the Daniel E. Seitz chapter of Independent Telephone Pioneers; attended Violet Hill United Methodist Church in York; was instrumental in the forming of the CCD classes at St. Patrick's Catholic Church; coached baseball for the Catholic Youth Organization at St. Patrick's Catholic Church; and was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran of World War II and a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean War.
Mr. Deems also is survived by two sons, Donald R. Deems of Las Vegas and James M. Deems of Dallastown; three daughters, Cynthia A. Kraft of Wrightsville, Christine L. Menges of Dillsburg and Carolyn J. Purvis of Indianapolis, Ind.; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Doris Skoda of Isabella and Merle O'Nesko of Ralph.
