Mr. Alt died Tuesday, September 6, 2016 at Parkview Regional Medical Center in Fort Wayne, IN.

Bernard H. Alt was born June 10, 1934 in Putnam County, OH, a son of Henry Francis and Luella Mary (Ricker) Alt.

He served in the U.S. Army and was a veteran of the Korean Conflict.

He was united in marriage to Dorothy Hoffman on October 18, 1958 in Fort Knox, KY.

He was a devoted husband, beloved father, and doting grandfather. He orchestrated many interesting family vacations over the years, seemingly always in search of his maps, sunglasses, and chewing gum. Always prepared, his vehicles were a treasure trove of tools, survival items, and a cooler full of "super-cooled" sodas. He was also a prolific letter writer, who enjoyed visiting with relatives and telling "just one more story."

He is survived by his four sons: Thomas (Linda) Alt, Fort Wayne, IN; Charles (Claire) Alt, Greenwood, IN; Ronald (Rynae) Alt, Shawnee, KS; and Kevin (Cynthia) Alt, Huntington Beach, CA; Brothers and sisters: Viola Topp, Leipsic, OH; John Alt, Saline, MI; Ghnelda Schimmoeller, Fort Jennings, OH; Robert (Carolyn) Alt of Leipsic, OH; Kenneth (Sandy) Alt, Temperance, MI; and eight grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Dorothy; his daughter, Barbara; his brothers, Richard, William, and Daniel; and his half-sister, Frances Alt.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association at https://donatenow.heart.org/.
