PETER G. "PANO" NICKLES
ITHACA - Peter G. "Pano" Nickles of Ithaca, died unexpectedly on Saturday, January 17, 2004, at the age of 50.
He was born in Des Moines, IA, on May 18, 1953, son of George and Matoula Manos Nickles, who survive him.
Pano, as he was called by his family and close friends, was a member of the Ithaca High School Class of 1971, and was the owner of the Double Nickle Saloon. He was a parishioner and former board member of St. Catherine Greek Orthodox Church. His offerings to the church will always remain as many of the interior structures were either built or repaired by him.
Pano was known for his devotion to his two young sons, his gentle yet strong way and for always going out of his way to help others. He was someone you could always count on and will be dearly missed by all those whose lives he touched in his very special way.
In addition to his parents, Pano is survived by his wife, Patty; and his two beloved sons, Jory and Jamie; his sister and brother-in-law, Anna and Yianni Stavropoulos; his nieces, Georgia and Matoula Rena Stavropoulos; and his grandmother, Helen Manos. He is also survived by his aunt, Marika Papadopoulos of Greece; his uncle, Nick Giannoucos; and his beloved and respected uncle, Bill (Paulette) Manos.
Funeral services will be celebrated by Rev. Stephen Lilley, Very Rev. Serafim Poulas and Rev. Steve Dalber on Tuesday, January 20, 2004, at 1 p.m. at St. Catherine Greek Orthodox Church. Friends may call at the church on Tuesday, prior to the service beginning at 11:30 a.m. Burial in Lakeview Cemetery will be delayed until spring.
Pano's family is graciously declining any floral offerings and instead wishes donations in his memory be made to St. Catherine Greek Orthodox Church, 120 W. Seneca St., Ithaca, NY 14850, to continue his charitable works.

Calif. man kills local bar owner
47-year-old shooter commits suicide after police chase
ITHACA - A local bar owner was shot and killed Saturday morning ... [shooter] killed Peter Nickles, of 107 Honness Lane and owner of the Double Nickle Saloon....
The assailant, the female's estranged husband, then led police on a low-speed pursuit into Tioga County before pulling off the road and fatally shooting himself. Police said Dino Meminger, of Los Angeles, also shot his wife at the same time he killed Peter Nickles, of 107 Honness Lane and owner of the Double Nickle Saloon, 624 W. State St. But police said the women's injuries were not life-threatening and she was treated and released from Cayuga Medical Center....
Saturday afternoon, the Double Nickle Saloon remained closed as a poster board cross hung on the front door in memory of Nickles. "We are all in shock over this terrible tragedy," said former city alderwoman Paulette Manos, who is Nickles' aunt. "We can't believe something like this could happen to such a kind generous person who was loved by so many. "People from all over the community have offered support for his two wonderful boys and for that we'll be forever grateful." Nickles leaves behind his wife, Patty and, two sons Jory, 10 and Jamie, 7, as well as a host of family members and friends.
