Alexander was married twice. His first wife was Eliza UNK. After her death, he married Mary McCosh.

OBIT 1:

Alexander Maitland, who died at his home in Princeton yesterday, in his sixty-second year, was the President of Edward Smith & Company, varnish and color manufacturers, 45 Broadway, President, Treasurer, and Director of the New York Marble Cemetery, and trustee of the Union Trust Company of New York. He was a member of the Century, New York Yacht, Downtown, and City Clubs, and was well known in New York social circles, but of late years he had given up his city home and retired to Princeton.

Mr. Maitland married Mary J. McCosh, a daughter of Dr. James. L. McCosh, who was a well-known President of Princeton University years ago.

Alexander Maitland, who for many years had been interested in charitable philanthropic work in this city, died suddenly at Princeton on Friday night from heart disease. Mr. Maitland was sixty-two years old. He leaves a wife.

He was connected with the management of the New York Public Library and the Presbyterian Hospital, and was a member of the Board of City Missions and of the Presbyterian Board of Foreign Missions. H was also the president of Edward Smith & Co. of No. 45 Broadway; president of the New York City Marble Cemetery and was a trustee of the Union Trust Company.

He was a member of the Century and Reform clubs, the Downtown Association, the New York Yacht Club, the American Museum of Natural History, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Scientific Alliance, the City Club, the American Fine Arts Society, the National Academy of Design and the American Geographical Society. The funeral will be held on Tuesday at the Brick Church.
