Robert F. Elkins, was the son of Richard Elkins (1761-1854) and Nancy Leslie McGuire (widow) (1756-1841). He was one of many children in the family to arrive in Logan, West Virginia, in its early years.

When he arrived, he was already married to Sally Harvey, the widow of Edward McDonald (abt. 1800-1822). Edward’s forefathers had fled the Scottish Highlands years earlier during the reign of King George II and his son, William Augustus (Duke of Cumberland), rather than face extinction.

Sally Harvey’s lineage is not known at this time. Sally is known to have at least 3 children, as evidenced in the 1850 census records. Her husband, Robert, appears to be widowed, living with 3 children.

• Arminta (abt. 1830-?)
• William C. (1832-1886)
• Minerva (1836-1926)

A possible daughter, already had married and passed:

• Mary Ann (1828-1848)

Robert, a farmer, doesn’t appear to have ever married again. He is said to have died in Cove Creek, Raleigh, WV, on February 27, 1864.
