Alma was the seventh child of Dora Caldwell and Frank Gunn. She completed seventh grade at Erath School and became a full time helper on her parents' farm. Alma and Guy Steen may have met in Pueblo, TX which was about four miles from the Gunn farm & a half mile from the Steen farm. The surrounding farm families attended church in Pueblo. It had the only grocery and general store, the railroad depot and a post office. On July 22, 1918 Alma and Guy were married in Eastland County, Texas and Guy was inducted into the U. S. Army for service in World War I.
Alma lived with her parents while Guy was in France. When the war ended, Guy and Alma lived with Guy's parents, George and Nelie Steen while building a house of their own on the north side of the Steen farm. (Written by her son, Roy.)

23 Oct 1974: Waco Tribune-Herald, Wednesday, Page 10C, Column 8 of 9: "Mrs. Guy Steen Dies in Houston -- MERIDIAN (SPL) -- Mrs. Guy (Alma) Steen, 75, of Lakeside Village died Tuesday morning in a Houston hospital. - Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p. m. Thursday at Brister-Lawson Funeral Home Chapel in Meridian. Burial will be in Clifton Memorial Cemetery. -- Mrs. Steen was born Feb. 9, 1899, in Troy. She married Guy Steen July 22, 1918, at Eastland. They lived in Austin a number of years before moving to Lakeside Village in 1964. She was a member of Meridian Church of Christ. - Survivors include her husband; a daughter, Mrs. Bill Sexton of Orange; three sons, Newt Steen and Jack Steen, both of Lakeside Village, and Roy Steen of Los Angeles, Calif.; three sisters, Mrs. Nona Kittrell of Lorenzo, Mrs. Gladys Edwards of Lakeside Village and Mrs. Eva Buchanan of Port Neches; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren."
