J. Paul Kienzle, 89, of Springfield died at 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 3, 1984, at the Haven Convalescent Center.

A resident of Springfield since 1904, Mr. Kienzle was born in Bloomington, the son of John and Bertha Gerling Kienzle.

He married Marie Granata Picco in 1942.

A granddaughter preceded him in death.

For many years, Mr. Kienzle was circulation director for The State Journal-Register.

He was a member of St. Paul's Lodge No. 500 AF&AM, Ansar Shrine, Jesters, Springfield Consistory, York Rite Knight Templar, Order of the Eastern Star and BPOE Elks Lodge No. 158 and was first president of the Circulation Managers Association.

Surviving are his wife, Marie; two daughters, Mrs. Margaret L. Grannis of Rochester and Mrs. Barbara A. Salmon of Springfield; one stepdaughter, Mrs. Antoinette M. Fyans of Springfield; one stepson, John M. Picco of Springfield; eight grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Carrie Richter of Beardstown and Mrs. Ruth Weidner of Cleveland, Ohio; one brother, Willis Kienzle of Santa Paula, Calif.; several nieces and nephews.

Services were at the Staab Funeral Home.

Burial was in Roselawn Memorial Park.
