Jennette Birley, age 87, of Aplington, Iowa, was born June 7, 1919, near Aplington, Iowa, the daughter of John and Margaret Bohlen Haan. She received her education at Spring Garden Country School, in Butler County, Iowa. Jennette was united in marriage with Floyd Birley on August 4, 1939, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. The couple lived first with Floyd's parents. In 1950 they moved to a farm north of Aplington where they farmed until they moved into Aplington in 1994. They had celebrated their 67th wedding anniversary August 4th. Jennette attended Sunday School and Church at Hitesville when she was younger. Later she attended Bethel Reformed Church. She enjoyed listening to the radio of the First Reformed Church services. She was saved February 17, 1936, with John 3:36. Jennette was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She also was a master homemaker whose family especially enjoyed her cooking. Many delicious meals and conversations were shared around the kitchen table. You could never leave her home without her asking, "Would you like to stay and eat a bite with us?"
