María Guadalupe García y Lugo was born at the Presidio of Monterey where she was baptized in the Presidio Chapel December 20, 1777 (SC Baptism 00516). She was the daughter of soldado Felipe Santiago García (bur. Nov. 10, 1822, SC Death 02428) and María Petra Joaquina Alcantará Lugo y Domínguez (bur. Nov. 2, 1817, SC Death 02225). Both her parents were born at Villa de Sinaloa, Sinaloa, and came to Alta California with Capitán Rivera y Moncada in 1774. María married (1) widower José Pedro Romero at Mission San Gabriel May 27, 1790 (SG Marriage 00375). About a year after his death at San José in 1797 she married (2) soldado Francisco Jiménez y López (born Tlaxcala, New Spain) at the Monterey Presidio Chapel on September 4, 1798 (SC Marriage 00568). Francisco was a veteran of the 1ra compañia de voluntarios de Cataluña. María died at Monterey and was buried in the Presidio Chapel cemetery on December 11, 1802 (SC Death 01494).
