Johanes Schnauffer (John Snouffer) was the youngest son of Johann ("Hans") Michael Schnauffer (1716-1773) and Magdalena Wendel (1716-c.1775), who immigrated from Germany and arrived with their family in Philadelphia aboard the ship Nancy on 16 Sep 1751. The family lived for a few years in Pennsylvania and then moved on to Maryland.
He and his wife Christina had 8 children.

Inscription
According to "Old Krider's Cemetery Inscriptions," vol. 16, Carrolltonian, p. 11 (1996), his tombstone states:
"Hier | liegt | begraben | Johanes Schnauber | ____ gebohren Anno | 1752 (?) den 15 den November | und starb den 12ten(?) February | Anno 1810 ____ | ____ Christiana | ____ Jahr 1776 (?) | ___ September und ___ | ___ 9 (?) Kinder 1 Sohn | under 8 (?) Dochter sie lebten im | Ehestand 34 (or 31) Jahr er brachte (?) | ___ Alter auf 57 Jahr 2 Monat.... (rest [is] buried)."
Gravesite Details
Both headstones were standing upright until recently, but by Oct. 2006 Johanes' stone had fallen over on its face. The stone was repaired and a new commemorative stone was dedicated at a Snouffer family reunion, 9 Oct 2010.
