Charles "Sonny" Aldrich Age 82, of Mechanicville, NY died Friday at St. Mary's Hospital, Troy, after being stricken at home.

Born March 8, 1917 in Mechanicville, he was the son of the late Lester and Harriet Rice Aldrich.

Mr. Aldrich was a former mechanic with the Boston and Maine Railroad, also working at the former West Virginia and Paper Co., and the public school system, all of Mechanicville. He was also the longtime caretaker for Hudson View Cemetery in Mechanicville.

During WWII, Mr. Aldrich served with the US Army.

A former member of the Stillwater Mens Bowling League, the American Legion Post 490, the Mid Rise Tenants Assoc. of Mechanicville, and the coffee club at McDonalds Restaurant. Sonny was best known for his quick wit, booming voice and confrontational conversation. He enjoyed woodworking and had bred and raised rabbits for years.

Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Lillian Gardner Aldrich, 2 daughters, Marilyn C. Spraker and Jackie Aldrich, both of Clifton Park, NY; and a son, Chuck Aldrich of Felton, DE. Also survived by 4 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; and sisters, Myra Petronis of Stillwater, NY, Leona Fawthrope of Endicott, NY, Marian Richardson, Edith Yankowski and Doris Aldrich, all of Mechanicville. He was predeceased by a brother, Donald "Porky" Aldrich and sisters, Bertie Pena and Ethel Medina.

A Memorial Service will be held on Monday at 10 am at the United Methodist Church in Mechanicville. Mr. Aldrich donated his body to the Anatomical Gift Program of Albany Medical College. Future burial in Saratoga National Cemetery.
