Aldrich, Lillian M. MECHANICVILLE Mrs. Lillian M. Aldrich, 93, of North Main Street, died Monday, December 26, 2011 at St. Mary's Hospital, Troy, in the loving company of her family. Born in Ballston Spa, September 1, 1918, daughter of the late Albert and Rosaline Eades Gardner, Lillian was educated in Ballston Spa and worked at the glove factory in her hometown, and later the Stillwater Knitting Co., the Cohoes Shirt Co., the Korell Dress Co., Waller Drug Store, both of Mechanicville and finally retired from the Little Folks Store in Clifton Country Mall. Growing up in a musical family, she played the marimbas and bells in the famous Gardner Marimba Band, starting at age 12. Lillian and the family band provided musical entertainment all over the Capital District, including the Canfield Casino, Saratoga Springs, where Lillian was fortunate enough to play with Bing Crosby, Sophie Tucker and Nat King Cole. She was predeceased by her husband of 59 years, Charles "Sonny" Aldrich, who died in 1999. Survivors include two daughters, Marilyn Spraker and Jacqueline Aldrich, both of Clifton Park; son Lester "Chuck" Aldrich of Felton, Del.; four grandchildren, Larry Spraker, Chuck, Timothy and Kevin Aldrich, 11 great-grandchildren, along with in-laws, nieces, nephews and their families. In addition to her husband, Lillian was predeceased by brothers William, Jack and Albert Gardner, all of Ballston Spa, and sisters, Gladys Clute, Rosaline Fillmore and Florence Eager. Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 10:30 a.m., at DeVito-Salvadore Funeral Home, 39 So. Main St., Mechanicville. Burial in the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery. Calling hours at the funeral home on Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the Clifton Park-Halfmoon or John Ahearn Rescue Squad, Mechanicville in loving memory of Lillian M.
