PACOLET - Talmadge Kirk Gilliland, 70, of 232 Ma's Road, died Jan. 27, 1997, in Spartanburg Regional Medical Center after an extended illness.

A native of Waynesville, N.C., he was the son of the late Minor Atkins and Laura Fowler Gilliland.

He was a member of Brown's Chapel Baptist Church of Pacolet Mills and was serving as secretary of the Pacolet Coon Hunter's Club. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and retired from Christman and Parsons Construction Co.

Survivors include his wife, Joanne Millwood Gilliland; two daughters, Sharon Mathis of Pacolet and Patricia Milton of Chester; two sons, Eddie and Bobby Guyton of Pacolet; one sister, Thelma Hudnut of Gaffney; two brothers, Hollis Gilliland of Gaffney and W.T. Whelchel of Greenville; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends starting at 6 tonight at the home.

Services will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday at Brown's Chapel Baptist Church, conducted by the Revs. Tim Fowler and Harold Patton. Burial will be in White Rose Cemetery. The body will be placed in the church at 2 p.m.

The S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
