A native of Lockhart, he was the husband of Sue Ogle Gilliland of the home and a son of the late Minor and Laura Fowler Gilliland. He was a member and former deacon of Rehoboth Baptist Church for more than 50 years. He was retired owner and operator of Hollis Gilliland's Pulpwood Co.
Survivors in addition to his wife include one daughter, Susie Edwards of Moore; one son, Randy Gilliland of Pacolet; a sister, Thelma G. Hudnut of Gaffney; a brother, W.T. Whelchel of Greenville; and a number of nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home's Jonesville Chapel. Graveside services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at the Rehoboth Baptist Church Cemetery, conducted by the Rev. Clay Earle.
