James Charles McCormick (1889 - 1961)

James Charles McCormick, son of Alex and Jeanie McCormick, was born in a sod house, seven miles southwest of McCracken in Ness County on July 23, 1889 and died at At. Luke's Hospital, Denver, Colo., Thursday, Nov. 2, 1961 after a short illness, at the age of 72 years, three months and nine days.

He grew to manhood in this Ness County community and as a boy attended the Hanson rural school near his home.

On Sept. 1, 1915, he was united in marriage to Miss Minnie Marak in St. Mary's church which was at that time a rural church, located five miles southwest of McCracken.

He was preceded in death by three infant children, James, Mary and Clarence; his parents; three sisters, Mary (Mrs. J.T. McKittrick), Agnes (Mrs. Lewis) and Bridget; three brothers, Alex, John and one who died in infancy.

Survivors include the widow, Minnie of the home; three daughters, Frances (Mrs. Robert Cline) Denver, Colo., Neva (Mrs. Melvin Metz) La Habra Calif., and Marvel Ann (Mrs. August Marak) McCracken, Annie (Mrs Howard Pryor), Dodge City and Jane (Mrs. O.E. McKittrick), LaCrosse; two brothers, Frank and Patrick, McCracken; nine grandchildren, Jimmy and Cloyse Cline, Denver, Colo., Johnny, Barbara and Mary Metz, La Habra, Calif.,....
