• Services for Ira Joy, 93, Cheek, will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Craddock Funeral Home Memorial Chapel with the Rev. J. B. Lovelace and the Rev. Willard "Chopper" McCartney officiating. Interment will follow at Cheek Cemetery.

Born June 10, 1908, in Cheek to John Calvin and Mary M. Allison Joy, he died April 11, 2002, at the local hospital. He married Alice Daphne Griffin on Oct. 19, 1929, in Lone Grove. She preceded him in death on Feb. 20, 1991. He was also preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Rosie Joy and Bessie Fuller; and six brothers, Jess Joy, Hardy Joy, Henry Joy, Noah Joy, Emzie Joy and Troy Joy.

Joy lived in the Cheek area all of his life. He worked as a farmer. He was a Methodist. He was a veteran of B Troop 7th Cavalry, in which he served from 1927 to 1928. After 1928 he remained in the cavalry as a reserve before re-enlisting in 1941 during World War II. He served in the South Pacific as part of B Troop 7th Cavalry until 1945.

Survivors include a daughter, Peggy Joy Litts, Ardmore; two sons, John Joy, Lovington, N.M. and Jerry Joy and his wife, Clancy, Cheek; a sister-in-law, Mollie Joy, Ardmore; nine grandchildren, Stephanie Hallmark, John Calvin Joy Jr., Terry Litts, Ari Dawn Litts, Lynn Litts, Allison Litts, Dawn Rudd, Bobby Joy and Billy Joy; 17 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Bearers are Bobby Joy, Bill Joy, Terry Litts, Lynn Litts, Joe Rudd and Gary Joy. Honorary bearers are David John Taylor Litts and Ira don Litts.
