GESINA E. PHILIPH

Gesina Eden Philiph, daughter of Herman and Thresa Eden, was born on December 30, 1872, near Homestead, Iowa County, Iowa, where she was also baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. At the age of 16, she moved with her parents to a farm in Osceola county, near May City, Iowa.

On March 9, 1893, she was united in marriage to Henry Philiph. This union was blessed with nine children. Following their marriage, Mr. and Mrs. Philiph located on a farm in Baker township, Osceola county, where they lived until March 1st, 1921, when they retired and moved to Hartley, Iowa, and where they have since resided.

After a lingering illness, Mrs. Philiph passed away Tuesday morning, November 9, at the Hand hospital, reaching the age of 82 years, 10 months and 9 days She was from a family of 10 children, eight sisters and one brother. All but one sister preceded her in death. She is Mrs. Johannah Philiph of Waterloo, Iowa.

Gesina is survived by her husband, Henry Philiph; four sons: Herman of Chokio, Minn., Gerald of Levittown, Pa., Edwin of Hartley and Robert of Hartley: four daughters: Mrs. Emma Shultz of May City, Mrs. LuVerne Peters of Westbrook, Minnesota, Mrs. Elsie Hoper and Mrs. Helen Wacker of Hartley; also 15 -grandchildren and 18 great gram-children and other relatives and friends.

One son, Victor, preceded her in death in 1920.

Pallbearers were six grandsons: Delbert Philiph, Eugen« Philiph, Duane Philiph, James Hoper, Dale Wacker and Donald Peters.
