Services in memory of Elsie Hoper were Held Monday, July 5, 1993 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Hartley. Rev. John Schauer officiated.
Casket bearers were Lon Wacker, Kenneth Wacker, Merle Wacker, Donald Peters, Jim A. Hoper and Duane Philiph.
Honorary casket bearers were Scott Philiph, Dale Wacker, Steve Hoper, Delbert Philiph, Bill Winter and Lyle Donnenwerth.
Interment was in Pleasant View Cemetery in Hartley.
Baumgarten Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Elsie Mathilda Hoper, daughter of Henry and Gesina Eden Philiph, was born February 17, 1904 in Harrison Township, Osceola County, Iowa.
Her childhood years were spent in that area, and it was there that she received her early education.
Elsie married Adolf Hoper on February 22, 1922, in Hartley. The early years of their marriage were spent on a farm north of Hartley where they lived for 27 years. In 1948, they moved into Hartley where she has since made her home.
Mrs. Hoper was a long-time member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church.
She was active in the Auxiliary and the Ladie s Aid, having been a member for nearly 70 years.
Mrs. Hope r passed away at the Hartley Health Center on June 30, 1993, at the age of 89.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband on August 5, 1972; four brothers: Herman,
Robert, Edwin and Victor Philiph; and an infant grandson.
Elsie is survived by one son and his wife, James and Doris Hoper of St. Augustine, Florida; one daughter, Helen Julia Ludowese of Merced, California; six grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren; one brother, Gerald Philiph of Levittown, Pennsylvania; three sisters, Emma Schultz and Helen Wacker, both of Hartley, and Laverna Peters of Bradenton, Florida; other relatives and friends.
