Ruth L. Kotthaus, 79, of Janesville died Wednesday, Sept. 24, 2003 at her home.
Born May 18, 1924 in Forest Township, Richland County, she was the daughter of Halley and Mary (Ekleberry) Smith.
She had been a Janesville resident since 1958. She married Edward P. Kotthaus on Feb. 15, 1943 in Fort Lewis, Wash. He preceded her in death on Feb. 13, 2000. Ruth had served on the Janesville Literacy Council.
Survivors include three children, Eugene Kotthaus of Apopka, Fla., Edward (Judy) Kotthaus of Delnorte, Colo, and Janet (Michael) Pitzo of Minocqua; seven grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Alice Gochenaur of Richland Center, Avis Bee of LaFarge and Ruby Nevel of Viola; and a brother Grant (Alma) Smith of Viroqua.
She was also preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Glen and Verlyn Smith.
Funeral services will be held a 7 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 26 at the Schneider Funeral Home in Janesville, Rev. Karen Kiener will officiate. Interment services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 27, at the Viola Cemetery. Friends may call from 5 p.m. until the time of services at the Schneider Funeral Home.
