Miss Alma Colby was born in Easton, Canada, Oct 17, 1853, came to America with her parents in 1856. They located on a farm in Wabasha county, about four miles south of Lake City, where the deceased resided until 1878 when she came to Redwood Falls and was united in marriage to W P Tenney, where she resided until her death.
To this union were born six children, three daughters and three sons, Ray, Mrs Julia Cowgill, Mrs Rena Strand, Ralph, Miss Ada, and Lee.
The deceased also leaves two brothers and two sisters, John Colby of Lake City, Rufus Colby of St Joe Missouri, Mrs Wm Evans of Lake City, and Mrs M S Phillips of Kirkland Wash.
About two years ago Mrs Tenney had an operation for cancer of the abdomen and had been a patient but great sufferer at times since, until about four months ago when she was taken to her bed and suffered intensely most of the time until death relieved her, and she passed to her heavenly home.
The deceased was a member of the Rebekah lodge, a member of the Crystal society, and also a member of the Priscilla class of the M E church. The Rebakahs and Corps attended the funeral in a body, and the Odd Fellow, of which her husband is a member, also attended in a body.
The funeral was held at the home of the deceased, the last sad rites being said by Rev Darrell, pastor of the local M E Church, of which she was a consistent member, after which the funeral cortege wended its way to the city cemetery east of town where the remains of one of the most beloved ladies of our city was laid to rest to await the resurrection morn.
