WILLIAM PITTS TENNEY DIES IN CALIFORNIA
Aged Redwood Falls Pioneer Passes Away Monday After a Third Stroke.

People of Redwood Falls were shocked to learn of the death of William Pitts Tenney at the home of his daughter in Huntington Park, California last Monday. Mr. Tenney, who had been a resident of Redwood Falls for more than fifty years, suffered from a third stroke from which death was inevitable. The body will be accompanied to Redwood Falls by the deceased man's son, Lee and will arrive here Friday.

Funeral services will be held at the Methodist Episcopal church at 2:00 o'clock Saturday afternoon with Rev. G.E. Martin officiating. Internment will be made in the local cemetery with an American Legion firing squad administering the last rites for the aged veteran.

Mr. Tenney was born at Preemption, Mercer County, Illinois on Oct. 21, 1847. In 1855 the family moved to Little Valley, Olmstead County, Minnesota, again moving to Wabasha, Minnesota in 1862 where Mr. Tenney resided until January 1865. At this time he enlisted with the Federal army and served until the close of the Civil War. Late in that year he received his discharge from the army and returned to Wabasha, living there until 1870.

In 1870 he came to Redwood Falls in a covered wagon. The people were still living in the stockade which was situated approximately where the Medical Block now stands.

Mr. Tenney opened a barber shop in June, 1870 and Maintained the business for 41 years, selling to his brother in 1911.

On November 28, 1878, he was united in marriage to Miss Alma Colby of Lake City. To this union 6 children were born, all of whom are living. Following the death of Mrs. Tenney in 1912, Mr. Tenney made his home in Redwood Falls with his eldest son, Raymond Tenney, He then moved to California to live with his daughter, Mrs. C. H. Cowgill, where he passed away.
