She was the daughter of George Washington Barefoot and Martha Eleanor (Camlin) Barefoot. She married John Robert Best on January 26, 1881 in Wilson County, North Carolina. They were the parents of three known children: Daisy Pauline, Annie Pearl and Martha E. She died in 1885 and was likely buried in the Barefoot family cemetery located on the north side of Contentnea Creek just outside of Wilson. In 1947, the remains of 39 people were removed from the cemetery during the widening of Hwy 301. The remains were reinterred in Maplewood Cemetery.
