T. E. Arledge

Roscoe, July 6 - T.E. Arledge, 64, prominent rancher and Hereford breeder of Nolan County, died at his home here this afternoon of complications from injuries received May 2 at one of his ranches.

Funeral services will be conducted at the First Baptist Church at 5:00 tomorrow afternoon by the Rev. G.W. Parks, Baptist preacher and long-time friend of the Arledge family. The Rev. Mr. Elrod, pastor, will assist.
Burial will be in the Roscoe cemetery.

It was his enthusiasm over baby beef calves that led to Mr. Arledge’s injuries which proved fatal. He was at the ranch helping Harry Rotan, Nolan county 4-H club boy, select a calf as he had done the past three years when a horse ran over him. He suffered minor hip and other minor wounds. It later developed, however, that he had suffered concussion of the brain and his condition steadily became worse. Since that time he has been in a semi-conscious condition and early in the week went into a coma from which he never awoke.

Mr. Arledge had been one of the strong supporters of club work in Nolan County and just this year saw his youngest son, Billie, 13, select five calves to be fed out from the herd of his older brothers and Mr. Arledge’s sons, Roy Arledge, Stamford business man, and Henry Arledge, Knox City business man.

A native Texan, Mr. Arledge was born on May 19, 1875. He moved to Nolan County in January 1913, and to Roscoe in 1922. While living here he continued to see after ranching interests south of Maryneal. Too, he was associated with Henry and Roy Arledge in the Arledge stock farm at Knox City, being somewhat of a secret partner.

Mr. Arledge’s two surviving brothers, Harve Arledge of Blackwell and Joe Arledge of Sweetwater are ranchers. Land of the three brothers runs from Maryneal to Sanco in Coke County. Other survivors include his wife, and two daughters, Mrs. R.D. Bridgeford of Colorado City and Mary Virginia of Roscoe; and five grandchildren.

T.E. “Em” Arledge was the father of Roy Arledge of Stamford who is at the head of the Arledge Ice Co. of Stamford.
