Permelia was born in Indiana, the daughter of Armstead and Faith Bennett, whose burial locations are unknown. Their home in Houston County, Texas, known as Bennett's Fort, was not far from Refuge Cemetery. Possibly they are buried there in unmarked graves.
In 1936, the State of Texas erected a Centennial marker at the graves of Captain Sadler and Permelia.
