Leon A. Webber was born on December 16, 1933 to Irving and Ann (Ladwig)
Webber in the family home in Manfred Township, Lac Qui Parle County,
Minnesota. On August 26, 1934 he was baptized at the Florida Lutheran
Church. Leon attended the Lac Qui Parle District #46 country school where
he graduated from the eighth grade on June 16, 1947. He then attended the
Gary High School in Gary, SD where he graduated on May 16, 1951.
On February 6, 1952 he enlisted in the United States Air Force. On December
2, 1955 he was separated from active duty and was honorably discharged on
February 5, 1960. Leon returned to Gary, SD where he was the city cop.
On April 20, 1963 Leon was united in marriage to Carolynn Jo Stone at the
First Lutheran Church in Gary. Following their marriage, they lived in Gary
where he continued to serve as the city cop. In 1967, they moved to
Watertown where Leon worked for Sand's Electric. They returned to Gary in
1968 where he continued working as an electrician for Matthes Electric, Rath
Electric, and Buss Electric. Then in 1972, Leon began working for Englestad
Electric where he worked for 30 years until his retirement. On Sunday
September 24, 2006, Leon passed sway at his home in Gary, SD at the age of
72 years, 9 months and 8 days.
Leon was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Clear Lake, SD. He was
also a member of the Peden-Cole Post 109 in Gary, SD and the Gary Fire
Department. Leon also served as the Director of the Gary Historical
Society.
He is lovingly remembered by his wife Carolynn Webber , Gary, SD; three
daughters; Mary Jo (Walt) Hudelson, Piedmont, SD, Cathy (Gary) Cavigielli,
Howard, SD and SueAnn (Rick) Donis, Aberdeen, Sd; 14 grandchildren; Melony,
Glenn, Sheleen, Lynda, Jon, Andy, Melissa, Tyler, Ethan, Donovan, Jessica,
Kaitlynn, Rebecca and Rachel; 6 great-grandchildren and one brother, William
(Irene) Webber, Alamogordo, NM.
Leon was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services were held on September 30, 2006 at 10:30 AM at the Trinity
Lutheran Church in Clear Lake, SD with the Rev. Michael Enderle officiating.
