Bernadine Celine (1903-1989), (nicknamed “Bunny” and “Unchie”) Bee was mercilously teased by her brother Jack and spent as much time as she could in her childhood at her Haas grandparents' farm. Bernadine came to Minneapolis in high school and lived with the family of her older sister Veronica Donovan. She must have been a good helper, and perhaps enjoyed being away from her brother Jack. She attended a lovely small Catholic school in downtown Minneapolis run by the Sisters of St. Joseph, St. Margaret’s Academy. When she graduated on June 13, 1923, her mother came to Minneapolis with her Aunt Dora Haas and her sister Eleanor for the graduation and to visit the relatives there. Their trip was reported in the New Richland Star on Friday, June 15, 1923. John and Bee had only one child, Bibiana Marie. She and John belonged to the Third Order of St Francis. Bernadine and John Warden enjoyed fishing and made annual fishing trips to northern Minnesota with Ed and Ellen Adams after their children were on their own. They were both beloved by their nieces and nephews. Aunt Bee could visit for hours, getting up once in a while and quietly returning until she had a beautiful meal prepared to serve. it appeared as though she had done nothing to prepare it. Joan Byrne lived with them for a while while attending graduate school in Milwaukee. Jim Adams lived for a time with them while attending Marquette University. After Bee died in 1989, John became more disoriented and was in a nursing home for a while before his death in 1903. Their niece, Kathleen Sullivan Franke, bought their home. (In the photo, Bee is seated. Her sister Mary Poster and John Warden are pictured as well)
