Services were February 28 at the David A. Hall Mortuary, Pittsboro, for Ercell L. Merritt, age 69, Jamestown, who died February 24 at his home. Rev. Bud Moody officiated. Burial was in the Lizton K. of P. Cemetery.

A native of Hendricks County, he was born April 2, 1919, a son of James W. and Cordelia (Scott) Merritt. On Oct. 5, 1940, he married Helen L. Belcher at Danville.

He had been a laborer for Pinkerton, Inc. Mr. Merritt was a member of the Concord Baptist Church in Boone County.

Survivors, in addition to his widow, Helen, are four sons, Dennis K., Ronald P., and Richard L. Merritt, all of Frankfort, and James I. Merritt of Max; five daughters, Sharon K. Scolley, Helen Deloris Hall, both of Vega, Tex., Martha J. Ridge of Whitestown, Charlotte L. Rouse of Jamestown and Cheryl L. Haffner of Lizton; a brother, Jewell Merritt of Danville; 35 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
