Uncle Jim, Aunt Cordie and Vernus Anglus are buried in the cemetery plot of Grandpa John Wesley, along with Aunt Della, Aunt Lizzie, Uncle Billie and Aunt Nora

James W. Merritt, age 81, died May 7 at the family homestead north of Pittsboro. He had lived his entire lifetime in that community. He was the son of John W. and Lydia Lamb Merritt.
A retired farmer, he was a member of the Concord Baptist Church.
Final rites were Thursday from the Gregory Funeral Home, Pittsboro, with Elder Sherman Essex officiating. Burial was in the Lizton K. of P. Cemetery.
Survivors include the widow, Cordelia Merritt; two sons, Ercell Merritt, Pittsboro, and Jewell Merritt, Lizton; 12 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren.
