Sharp Funeral Home

Dorothy Mueggenberg, 93 of Carroll, died Wednesday, June 12, 2013 at the Carroll Health Center Nursing Home in Carroll.

Mass of the Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. John’s Catholic Church in Arcadia. The Celebrant will be Fr. Gary Snyder. Con-Celebrant will be Fr. Richard Remmes. Music will be by Darlene Leiting and the St. John’s Choir. Mass servers will be Tanner and Travis Freese. Lectors for the funeral mass will be Paul Kerkhoff, Dorothy’s grandchildren: Jaime Schwanz and Chad Onken, and Dorothy’s great-grandson, Tanner Lemmon. Gift Bearers will be Dorothy’s granddaughters: Kim Lemmon, Julie Kerkhoff, Mitzi Callow, and Jaime Schwanz. Casket Bearers will be Dorothy’s grandchildren: Curt Augustus, Craig Augustus, Kevin Onken, Chad Onken, Kim Lemmon, Julie Kerkhoff, Mitzi Callow, and Jaime Schwanz. Burial will be at St. John’s Cemetery in Arcadia. The Carroll Catholic Daughters of Americas and the St. Anthony Hospital Auxiliary will form an honor guard for the funeral mass.

Friends may call at the Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll after 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, where there will be a Rosary at 3 p.m. by the Carroll Catholic Daughters of Americas, and a Christian Wake Service by St. John’s Parish at 5 p.m. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be left at the funeral home or church for the Clem and Dorothy Mueggenberg Fund of the Kuemper Foundation or for St. Anthony Hospice.

Born on December 6, 1919 at Arcadia, Iowa, Dorothy Kathryn was the daughter of Aloysius “Louis” and Johanna (Pille) Schroeder. She spent her younger years in the Arcadia community and attended St. John’s School.

On August 20, 1940, she was married to Clem Mueggenberg at St. John Church in Arcadia. The couple farmed and raised their family north of Arcadia until 1978 when they retired and moved to their home in Arcadia.

In 2003, Dorothy moved to Orchard View in Carroll. She was a member of St. John Parish, St. John’s Ladies Guild, Catholic Daughters of America, and St. Anthony Regional Hospital Auxiliary. Dorothy loved her family and friends, spending winter months in Arizona with her husband, camping, playing cards, crafting, and china painting.

Survivors include her daughters: Kay Augustus of Carroll, Joni Livdahl of Scottsdale, AZ, Patti Onken of Mesa, AZ, and Jean McKinney of Carefree, AZ; 10 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren; one sister, Shirley (Robert) Wolterman of Mesa, AZ; two brothers, Ivan (Alma) Schroeder of Elmer, and Vincent (Carolyn) of Carroll; sister-in-law, Lois Schroder of Omaha, NE; and a brother-in-law, Wilbert Lussman of Carroll; as well as several nieces, nephews, and other extended relatives.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; husband Clem in 1999, son-in-law Robert Augustus; great granddaughter, Ashley Augustus; great grandson, Cole Callow; sisters Ethel Hesson, Mercedes Renze, Ruth Lussman, and Marcella Schroder in infancy; brothers Orville Schroeder and Duane Schroeder.
