In 1904, Julia married John T. Akre (1881 - 1949), a Norwegian immigrant. John and Julia had five children:

* Philip Akre (1907 - 1974)
* Lucile Akre Locke (1909 - 1976)
* Dorothy Akre Hermanson (1912 - 1981)
* Eugene C. Akre (1914 - 1996)
John and Julia raised their children in Garretson, South Dakota. Julia may also have been a school teacher or a nurse. She accompanied her husband when he moved to Washington, DC, in the early 1940s, working at a retail shoe store.
Julia and John had returned to South Dakota when John died in 1949. Julia died in 1954, survived by all five of her children. She was buried next to John in Zion Lutheran Church Cemetery in Garretson.
