Beret Arntdattor Johnson Stormo was born July 14, 1857 in Norway. Her father was Arnt Johnsen, but the name of her mother is unknown. Her first name is believed to be spelled "Beret," however, it is spelled "Berit" on her grave stone.

On 26 Jan 1877 Beret married Hemming J. Stormo (1857 - 1934) in Meråker, Nord-Trøndelag, Norway. They had nine children, all of whom survived well into adulthood:

* John Melvin Stormo (1878 - 1955)
* Arnt Stormo (1880 - 1948)
* Julia Birgitta Stormo Akre (1883 - 1954)
* Helmer Bernhard Stormo (1886 - 1946)
* Josephine Stormo Samuelson (1888 - 1963)
* Inga Olive Stormo Lee (1891 - 1964)
* Rev. Carl Alfred Stormo (1895 - 1993)
* Pauline Emilie Stormo Lee (1898 - 1994)

Hemming and Beret emigrated from Norway and arrived in the United States in 1877 with their eldest son, Martin. They settled in Minnesota. Berit cared for the children in 1908 when Hemming left to study to become a Lutheran minister. He was ordained in 1908.

Beret died on 6 Mar 1930 in Ramsey, Minnesota and was survived by Hemming and all nine of her children.
