Mr. Donald Allen, age 78, died Saturday December 19, 2015, at the Ogeechee Area Hospice House in Statesboro.
The native and lifelong resident of Bulloch County attended Portal High School. Donald joined the Army National Guard in which he served for 13 years. He began his career with Derst Baking Company in 1960 and retired as a supervisor in 1995, following 35 years of dedicated service. Donald was a former member of the Statesboro Jaycees where he was elected Jaycee of the Year and he was a member of the Statesboro Kiwanis Club. He was a member of the Cypress Lake Tuesday Night Supper Club. He was a member of the Statesboro Primitive Baptist Church.
Donald enjoyed fishing and loved living on Cypress Lake.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Willie and Nezzie Akins Allen.
Surviving are his wife of 59 years, Sybil Cowart Allen of Statesboro; a son and daughter-in-law, Don (T-Bone) and Teresa Allen of Statesboro; a daughter and son-in-law, Hollie and Lee Eckles of Statesboro; three grandchildren, Tiffany Allen of Cleveland, GA, Blake Eckles and wife Abby of Smyrna and Mary Beth Ball and husband Will of Statesboro; a brother, Barney Allen of Statesboro and two sisters, his twin sister, Doris Bradley of Statesboro and Linda Allen of Statesboro. Many nieces and nephews also survive.
The family will receive visitors on Sunday from 4:00pm until 7:00pm at Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home in Statesboro.
Funeral services will be Monday at 11:00am in the chapel of Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home with Elder Randy Waters officiating.
Interment will be in Bulloch Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be his nephews.
Honorary Pallbearers will be the Cypress Lake Tuesday Night Supper Club.
