Mrs. VIRGINIA DOUGLAS FRANKLIN WELTY, wife of the late Scott Sherman Welty, died Tuesday night at the home of her son, Philip Hammond Welty, 200 West South Street, of complications following a long illness. She was 77 years old. She was born in Bedford, Virginia, a daughter of the late John and Arrabella Creasey Franklin, and has resided in Frederick many years.

She was a member of Evangelical Lutheran Church and Sunday school in which she was a teacher over 30 years.

Besides her son, she is survived by the following sisters and brothers: Mrs. William E. Armstrong, Yuba City, Ca.; Mrs. John M. Winter, Danville, Va.; George C. Franklin, Lake Worth, Fl.; Mrs. John B. Duncan, Zuni, Va.; Floyd R. Franklin, Philadelphia; Houston Franklin, Ocean City, NJ; and Mrs. Samuel A. Bareford, Philadelphia; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Services were held at the late residence; interment was in Mount Olivet Cemetery. C.E. Cline and Son were the funeral directors.
