Suggested edit: Sarah Gertrude Herron, the daughter of Charles and Annie (Hashberger) Shafer, was born at Schuyler, Nebraska, on June 10, 1891, and passed away at Aurora, Nebraska, on June 5, 1986, at the age of 94 years, 11 months, and 25 days.

They moved to Howells, Nebraska, when she was 1 ½ years old, and attended country school at Howells until the 4th grade when the family moved to York, Nebraska. She attended public schools at York and started at York College in 1907 and graduated in 1912. She then taught school in York County.

On December 24, 1914, she was united in marriage to Carl E. Herron at York. They farmed in York County until 1929, when they moved to Marquette. In 1931 they moved to Aurora.

Gertie was a member of the Aurora United Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, 3 sons, Herbert, Warren and Gyle; 2 daughters, Leta Belle Weedin and LaVerne Bottorf, 2 brothers, a sister and 3 grandchildren.

Those who remain to cherish her memory are her 2 daughters, Roberta Vetter of Aurora and Ramona Johnson of Mesa, Arizona; 16 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren, and many other relatives and close friends.
