First Death in 66 Years Breaks Family Circle
Mrs. Carrie Bullock, 86, of Cherry Creek, Passes Day After 66th Anniversary
Death came to an unassuming vine-covered cottage in Cherry Creek yesterday, taking Mrs. Carrie Florence (Ma) Bullock, 86, touching the family circle for the first time in 66 years.
Mrs. Bullock died 24 hours after she and her 88-year-old husband, Elmer O. Bullock, had observed their 66th wedding anniversary.
Two years ago Ma and Pa Bullock and their seven children, fathered from all parts of the country, gathered around the dinner table for the most remarkable reunion in the history of this county. For at that time it marked 64 years in which an American family circle had eluded death, divorce, anger hatred and envy and was still intact with the word "home" a cherished reality, bound by love and kindly ties.
Unique Reunion
It means that Pa and Ma Bullock, he at 86 and she at 84, were gazing around the table into the Faces of every one of their seven children sitting in exactly the same positions they did as growing children while the parents were giving the word "home" its fullest meaning, creating a first residence out of a virgin wilderness in Wisconsin; a later home, a farm in Virginia; still later one in a city, another in a little country place and then, finally, when all the children were grown and married the final residence in Cherry Creek where Pa and Ma bought a house and lot in 1915.
That was the last such reunion. A year ago the venerable couple observed their 65th anniversary quietly, Pa and Ma smiling as brightly as the cheerful petunias that graced their doorstep. They expressed thanks to Almighty God for keeping their family circle unbroken so many years. This year the 66th anniversary was even quieter, due to the condition of Mrs. Bullock.
The eldest child is now 65, the youngest 48. Mrs. Bullock also leaves in addition to her seven children and her husband 29 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren. The seven children are Mrs. Rose Bullock Bascom, CherryCreek; Eldred J. Bullock, Sarasota, Florida; Mrs. Agnes Bullock Naramore, Pawtucket, R. I.; Arthur M. Bullock, Whittier, Cal., Jesse G. Bullock, Sinclairville; Chester J. Bullock, 109 NewlandAvenue, Jamestown; and Eunice Bullock Pickard, Mayville.
Born in Cherry Creek
Born in Cherry Creek Mrs. Bullock migrated with her husband to Wisconsin after their wedding 66 years ago and together they made a home out of the wilderness. Mr. Bullock was for many years a contractor.
Funeral services will be held at the Cherry Creek Baptist Church Saturday at 2 P. M. with burial in the Cherry Creek Cemetery.
The regard in which Ma Bullock was held by her family and friends is summed up in the last verse of a poem, written last year and presented to his mother on the 65th anniversary of his parents' marriage by the eldest son, Eldred J. Bullock, of Florida, which read:
"God bless you little Old Woman
And when you shall finally depart
Rest assured there's recorded in Heaven
The goodness that dwells in your heart."
