Henry Clay Valentine was born October 22, 1838, in Allen County, Indiana, the 9th of 11 children of John and Susanna Peters Valentine, who left Franklin County, Ohio, and settled in Allen County. Henry was also the grandson of John Henry and Elizabeth Freeze Valentine, natives of Maryland, who settled in Pickaway County, Ohio. Henry passed away August 27, 1840, in Allen County, and was buried in Watterson Cemetery, Dunn Mill, Allen County, Indiana.
