GUEYDAN, lA. - Merile Chauvin, 53, of this place, was accidentally killed at the Klondyke plantation pumping plant, six miles west of here, early Thursday. Chauvin was doing some carpentering work at the plant which was in operation and when stepping over the main shaft, a setscrew caught his trouser leg just about the ankle drawing him into the machinery and breaking nearly every bone in his body. He lived only two hours.

Children: Mary Beulah, Valerie Orphise, Serge Marcel (Sidney), Joseph Nolan, Ledie Marie, John Washington, Jeanne, Vivian, Ola Mae, Henry Paul, Virginia Leah and Clifford Rex.

Merrille was a carpenter and he was helping to lay out the town of Mulvey in south Louisiana. According to his son, Merile was running some kind of machinery which had a belt and his pant leg got caught and he was pulled into the contraption crushing him.
