SWEETWATER VETERAN, LESLIE CARDWELL, 59, DIES AT BIG SPRING

Sweetwater, Feb. 28 - Leslie Cardwell, 59-year-old World War I veteran from Sweetwater, died late Friday night at a Big Spring VA hospital after an eight-month illness.

Funeral will be held at 3:30 p.m. Sunday at the Lamar Street Church of Christ with minister Paul Foutz officiating. The Rev. Roy Patterson of Roby will assist. Veterans of Foreign Wars will conduct graveside rites.

Born in Refugio County, Mr. Cardwell had lived in Fisher County, where he married the former Marvin Justice, before moving to Sweetwater 12 years ago. Before his illness, he had been active in the cafe business.

Survivors are his wife; a son, Roland Gene, of Sweetwater; three daughters, Mrs. Tom Anderson of Sweetwater, Mrs. Charles Brown of Kermit and Mrs. Norris Giesler of Kermit; three brothers, Laverne Cardwell of Roby, Bill Cardwell of Roby and Frank Cardwell of Worland, Wyo.; five sisters, Mrs. Calvin Shipley of Paso Robles, Calif., Mrs. Bessie Walker of Sweetwater, Mrs. J. P. Davis of Roby, Mrs. Coy Brock of Sweetwater and Mrs. Charity Strobel of Sweetwater; and five grandchildren.

Veterans will serve as pallbearers.
