After graduating from Silverton High School, he joined the Army in 1943. He was in the 11th Airborne Div. and fought in the Pacific Theater. After his discharge, he began his 46 year career at the First State Bank of Silverton; he started as a teller and later became CEO.
Jack married Eloise Tunnell on June 12, 1952. They were members of the United Methodist Church in Silverton, Texas, where he served as treasurer for 25 years. After he retired from banking, Jack and Eloise moved to Lubbock and joined the United Methodist Church there. During his years in Silverton, Jack worked with and supported the Boy Scouts of America. He was on the Board of Directors for the Texas Banking Association from 1979 to 1981, and he received the Distinguished Service Award for his outstanding community service by the Silverton Lions' Club.
Jack is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Eloise Strange; a son, Donald Weast and wife, Cynthia; grandchildren, Nathan Weast, Amanda Rogers, and Adriane Weast; and 6 great-grandchildren.
