Carlos Guillermo Dana y Carrillo was born at Santa Bárbara, Alta California, México, where he was baptized in the Presidio Chapel June 27, 1837 (BP Baptism 01209). He moved with his family to Rancho Nipomo in 1839. He married Maria Blandina del Refugio Esquer y Pico in San Luís Obispo September 1, 1866. They were residents at Arroyo Grande in 1880 (1880 US Census). Charles served as the San Luis Obispo county clerk for more than 20 years.

DANA. In this city, Feb. 28, 1896, Charles William Dana, a native of Santa Barbara, Cal., aged 58 yrs., 8 mos., 1 day. A solemn high mass of requiem will be celebrated for the repose of his soul at the Catholic church, commencing at 10 o'clock a.m., today, March 1. Funeral cortege from the church at 11:30. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend.
